The Pirate Yearbook is a combination of journalism, photography, and publishing. Staff members attend many school events taking pictures to use in the yearbook. They record information about various events, conduct interviews, and write stories about the current school year. Once they have gathered all information needed to create a yearbook page, they take to the computer and begin page design. Page design requires quite a bit of understanding of web publication as well as photo editing software. Staff members are also involved in the buisness side of publication. They sell business ads, take yearbook orders, and sell senior ads. They also organize and produce the annual Beauty and Beau pageant as the yearbook's primary fundraiser. Students involved in yearbook must be able to attend numerous events outside of school hours, attend occasional workshops on selected weekends, and sometimes stay after school to work on publication. To be on the staff, students must submit an application with three letters of recommendation from previous teachers, one being an English teacher. Final selection of staff members is made by the yearbook advisor, Ms. Cauthen, after careful review.
